A 24-bit/96-KHz flac24 version of this recording is also available.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.

Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

- Opening night of the "Born In The U.S.A." tour.
- Debuts of No Surrender, Glory Days, My Hometown, Born In The U.S.A., Dancing In The Dark, I'm On Fire, Working On The Highway, and Bobby Jean from
 "Born In The U.S.A.".
- Debuts of Johnny 99, Atlantic City, Mansion On The Hill, Used Cars and Highway Patrolman from "Nebraska".
- "No Surrender" (only played twice in full band arrangement on the tour) features a rewritten last verse.
- "Dancing In The Dark" is played twice for the video shoot.
- Also debut of the Rolling Stones' "Street Fightin' Man".
- During "Jungleland" a girl jumps on stage causing a short delay to song.

Thanks to tattoodad and 'johnny98' for the show! Title dedicated to dt.

"This is the opening night of the Born in the USA Tour. The band sounds great, but their sound will change greatly over the tour. Early on in the tour, the drums sounded more natural and Bruce had no routine to copy. In my opinion, this is the most enjoyable and novel show from the 1st 4-5 weeks of the tour.
The Dancing in the Dark video is filmed this night and is played 2 times for the cameras. No Surrender makes its full band debut and will be played only 1 other time this way on the tour.
This recording has been carefully remastered from uncirculated cassettes that I have been sitting on for a long time. The recording had some songs which were cut (Glory Days, Bobby Jean, and The Detroit Medley). Fortunately, the cut songs are replaced and heard in their entirety on this release thanks to Rockcat who supplied me with complete copies of the aforementioned cut songs from his master cassettes (altenate source). Thanks also to Tattoo Dad for starting his UBER Project.
Enjoy this release. Roll down your windows - and play it loud." - Johnny98

Master:
Studar A90 multitrack through SSL3000 mixer
outboard gear: Lexicon 224-urei compressors-eventide harmonizors-live reverb chambers.
Mixed to ATR102 1/4" 2 track> sony cassette deck

CD mastering:
cassette masters>nac dragon>A/D convertor>yamaha 03D(AES)>audigy platinum(spdif)

Post-editing (ev2):
waves lineq

--

Maybe someday this will inspire some über's to share their unbooted treasures, such as the 'complete' River studio sessions.

The story behind this is:
"I was working as an assistant engineer at the Record Plant, and we recorded a number of shows on the tour for a live album.
When they came back to LA Toby Scott was starting to mix.
I asked him if he would allow me to do a mix and evaluate my skills. He let me use the 24 track masters to do one song.
He liked what I did and said if I want to play some more I could.
I had forgotten about the tapes until a few days ago while going through some old boxes."

Huge thanks to Bob S. for the show.
